Waves and Shutter Speed

The strong contrasts of the sky, water, and rocks made interesting black and white studies, particularly as I played with shooting the waves at different speeds. Shutter speeds between 1/10 and 1/2 of a second successfully created the sense of motion I wanted, while longer ones led to ethereal tidepools.

I also took 15 to 30 second pictures of the waves washing over larger rocks, using a neutral density filter to get the slower shutter speeds. This one looks to me like a painting from a fantasy epic.
